beef and broccoliI am a huge fan of good Chinese take-out. But sometimes, I run across a recipe that tastes even better than what I can find at a restaurant, and it just makes my day.

This recipe is not only delicious, but also fairly simple; With only a handful of ingredients, you don’t have to search specialty stores for any exotic spices, or make sure you have twenty different ingredients on hand (don’t you just hate that?).

This recipe is also an incredible time saver. I whipped this up for dinner last night, and from start to clean up it took no more than 20 minutes tops.

To minimize clean up: cut up the broccoli first, then the steak, so that you can use the same cutting board (generally, it’s NOT a good idea to use the same cutting board for meats and veggies, but I just do my veggies first, and meat last, so that the raw meat doesn’t contaminate any of the veggies).

Then, it all cooks in one pan or skillet (or wok if you’re fancy enough to have one. I’m not). Beef and broc in the pan

Ingredients

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3/4 lb boneless round steak, cut into strips
  • 1 tablespoon oil (coconut/EVOO)
  • 3 cups broccoli florets (I use 2 whole heads of broccoli)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder (optional)

Instructions

  • In a large skillet or wok over medium high heat, stir-fry beef and garlic in 1 tablespoon oil until beef reaches desired doneness; remove and keep warm.
  • In the same pan, stir-fry broccoli in remaining oil for 4-5 minutes. Return beef to pan. Add soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, sriracha and 1 tbsp water to the pan. Stir fry for an additional two minutes.

This recipe serves 2-4 depending on appetite and number of side dishes. I serve it with rice, and it seems to be enough for my husband and I for dinner, plus leftovers for one lunch the next day.
