WordsI’ve always known that words are powerful. The things we say, the things we think, and the things we write become who we are. So I still don’t understand why I was so shocked at the transformation that I had when I started incorporating these three words into my daily life.

In fact, these three words became a mantra of mine as I went from disordered eating to a healthy relationship with food. Each time I repeated this short phrase I found myself a little more calm and level headed about my eating, and a little less crazy.

This is still a phrase that resonates with me to this day and is something that I still say on a regular basis.

Are you ready for the three words? Here they are:

“It’s just food”

Now, this phrase doesn’t mean that eating and nourishment isn’t important. Here’s what it really means:

“It’s just food” means –

The food I eat does not determine my goodness and worthiness as a person

“It’s just food” means –

There’s no reason to get upset or stressed about any one food choice

“It’s just food” means – 

One meal or bite cannot determine my success or failure in the long run 

“It’s just food” means –

I can leave some on the plate or throw some away.

“It’s just food” means –

It’s ok if someone else’s food looks different than mine.

 “It’s just food” means –

Food cannot be a replacement for what else I’m missing: love, happiness, fun, relaxation.

“It’s just food” means –

There are more important things in my life than thinking about food.

Because really, It’s. Just. Food.

This phrase has been instrumental in my own personal journey.
